OUR STORY & PHILOSOPHY
Robert Weiss has been experimenting with Crystalline Glazes since 1966. When he first started experimenting with these glazes, it was challenging to get the beautiful results he knew were possible because the personal computer hadn’t yet been invented! After many years of careful practice and scientific formulations, Robert has created proprietary glazes with custom firing schedules. His decades long expertise and close attention to detail, the results of many sleepless nights spent carefully watching his kiln, will be available soon to independent potters seeking the results Robert has achieved. More About Robert
Robert has been an artist his whole life. He grew up in post WWII Los Angeles and studied at Otis Art Institute in the 1960's. Robert worked with ceramics, sculpture and a variety of other mediums. Ask him about the time he dressed up as a phone repairman to string a Sky Sculpture across Wilshire Blvd! When he was a graduate student, Robert owned and operated a ceramics shop on Hollywood Blvd called "The Potter's Wheel Gallery" where he also lived. Robert received his Masters in Fine Art in 1970, and in 1972 he moved his company, “Robert Weiss Ceramics”, to the small town of Healdsburg in Northern California. He opened a facility that eventually grew to be the largest handmade stoneware manufacturer in the United States, employing almost 100 potters and artisans who produced an extensive line of handmade pottery sold at retailers nationwide.

For over fifty years Mr. Weiss has focused his art through various businesses he has owned and operated. The success of those businesses has allowed him to give back to his community. All profits from the sale of Robert's ceramics are given to The Weiss Family Fine Arts Scholarship Fund. Since 2003 the fund has awarded over 74 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Sonoma County pursuing an education in Fine Arts.

Today, Robert lives in Sonoma County and works in his (much smaller) home studio to produce hand thrown porcelain with crystalline glazes.

"I have been involved in various forms of art all my life. For me, my art is an expression of what I personally enjoy. I got my first brownie camera when I was six and took pictures of everything. I still do today. I began working in ceramics in 1964 in my first year of college."
